U7137 MDS Question
2007 Dodge Ram 1500 / 5.7 Hemi
I used to have a Superchips tuner on my truck, however when the truck was in a Superchips program, the MDS shift was just too annoying. I took the SC tuner back and bought an Edge Evolution in hopes that the MDS shift would be as smooth as factory, or at least smoother than the SC, however I found the Edge Evolution is plagued be the same problem.
Anyway, the question is, does the predator have the annoying "MDS Bump" (as I call it) like the other programmers??? I know it has the option to disable MDS, however my truck sees an average of 3-4k miles per month, so most of the time I want the MDS to engage like normal to save on fuel.
If the Predator U7137 has figured out a way around the MDS Shifting issue, you can mark me down as a customer... Please let me know.

RE: U7137 MDS Question
I have seen it to be worse with other tuners, but any time you reduce TM the MDS pulse will be felt more.
We plan to spend some time with the MDS mapping to see if we cant make it work better than the OEM programming.

RE: U7137 MDS Question
Thanks for the quick reply... Both SC and Edge tech's told me flat out basically that I was just going to have to deal with it, so I'll probably go ahead and give your tuner a try, heck I've tried all the others.. lol

RE: U7137 MDS Question
Will it be possible to bump up the speed at which MDS works? I know with the superchips MDS would work up to about 75mph compared to the factory 65. I know this had to do with engine load but just a question. I know when I installed my 2600 stall i can actually accelerate from a dead stop to 60 in MDS (slow of course) and before the stall it wouldnt do that.

RE: U7137 MDS Question
You can change the points on which it engauges and disengauges with engine load etc. I bet the speed on the change would depend on the speed of the electronic lifters. They lock in place with pins that are driven by oil. I think the selenoid speed on which the passages are open or closed is depended on the selenoid itself.
Dodge said at one time MDS will engauge between 45-65mph. This is not the case on most trucks. I have seen mine engauge as low as 10mph while accel. Very annoying.

RE: U7137 MDS Question
Currently we are not doing anything with the mds operation, we plan on looking into it however but no eta on that.

Re: RE: U7137 MDS Question
I agree it is very annoying.. Do you know the max lift you can get out of the MDS lifters as opposed to normal Hemi lifters? I know you can run pretty much all the same cams but then ive also seen with bigger cams you cant rev past the stock rev limiter?electricmarquis wrote:You can change the points on which it engauges and disengauges with engine load etc. I bet the speed on the change would depend on the speed of the electronic lifters. Disable it!! =)
RE: Re: RE: U7137 MDS Question
Disable it. The car drives MUCH smoother. I have noticed very little effect on MPG. Gas is $2 a gallon now anyway. Burn it baby!

No farting your way across town and a smooth ride on the freeway... that's easily worth one mpg.

Re: RE: U7137 MDS Question
mds engages when the engine is under a 30% load. thats it. mph has nothing to go with it, it can come on light to light, and it can come on during easy load highway driving, tailwind, going down a grade. etc..electricmarquis wrote:You can change the points on which it engauges and disengauges with engine load etc. I bet the speed on the change would depend on the speed of the electronic lifters.
