On the fly tuning?

Post by 9nightmare4 »

Will you be able to do on the fly tuning? Not like the Predator where you have to plug it in and do that whole process when changing from tune to tune.

Nope, the PCM doesn't work like that. A restart is needed for all changes. The Trinity will always be plugged in, so you can skip that step.

so all you got to do is click on your tune and go or do you still need to shut down the car to reset the settings?

More then likely you'll have to shut it down.

IIRC, you have to have the vehicle shut down like the Predator. However, the hardware should allow faster write times.

Trust me, this thing is bad ass.... Got to see a sneak peek at it and it is awesome!

AFAIK, any custom tune for the CROM type Predator should work with Trinity.

Don't hold me to that though.

that stinks. you would think you would be able to tune on the fly. the bully dog connects to the obd2 port and can switch on the fly. so it can be done.
that is a very annoying feature

I think it has a lot to do with how the tools write to the PCM.

yes but to claim to be the most advanced tuner on the market and not be able tune on the fly is a short coming. Smarty pod, bully dog and others can on the fly. it would be ashame not to be able to with this. Dont get me wrong this thing looks like a wicked programmer.

Certain things can be changed on the fly, like boost on a vehicle with an electronic controller. Otherthings require a complete rewrite, which nobody can do without a restart because its not possible.

Their HP settings are changed by varying boost. More boost means more power.

Unless they aren't writing anything to the PCM and are instead intercepting the data and changing it. Thats a very crude way of tuning though that I'd think they wouldn't be doing.

I disagree with that. with the hp ratings they are issuing and most people running stock turbos you run out of power as your turbo isnt rated for such high boost.
I dont know how they do it but this is from their site (smarty)
Power on Demand
100 power levels selectable in just one second during the
driving!
It's easy: just type the preferred power level directly on Smarty
keyboard, from 00 to 99. That's all!
For security reason, the truck waits that the throttle is released
before applying the new power level.

not knocking the trinity as it is looking like the programmer to beat right now but power on demand is what will sell more .

Well, FWIW, the Trinity will be able to control our Extreme Power Pucks on the fly on Diesel applications so you will have some on-the-fly adjustability right through the screen on your Trinity.
