check engine light with ext power puck on 2000 f650 w cat

Post by BPJP »

Just installed brand new extreme power puck on my 2000 f650 with a cat 3126 motor and i get a check engine light flashing and it is derated ie. wont go over 45 mph. I unhook the puck and it goes back to normal. normal being the motor runs with a wierd lope at idle or especialy after sudden deceleration but it will go 80mph easy with no chk eng light. could I have a bad fuel pressure sensor, or map sensor? idle was smooth with puck installed but motor was derated.

So, are you saying that the truck had a bad idle before you ever plugged the puck in?

The truck runs out good but yes the idle is not correct. it lopes kinda of like it is bouncing especialy on a sudden deceleration. rup - rup - rup -rup. ya know? Not the normal deisle sound more anoying than anything smooth as long as your on the throttle Im not saying it has anything to do with the puck just that when i installed it no more loping but chk eng light is flashing. bad sensor? bad connection? bad GEM module on truck? have replaced filters fuel, air, etc. Had an edge module on it when I bought the truck. Drove from Missouri to Nevada without a hitch.

Either way, you need to figure out the idle issue before you add the puck as we'll never be able to troubleshoot it properly like that...

Took truck to mechanic he checked for any trouble codes with puck unhooked no active or inactive codes. checked again with puck hooked up and got a code something about injection circuit voltage to high or something like that i will find out the exact code tomarow. he also said turbo would not spool up with puck installed no boost pressure, but worked fine with puck unhooked

You should check the puck connectors. I had similar problem and found 2 bad connections on the puck, one wire was not cimped properly and the other not locked in the main connector.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
