U7193...where do I start?

Post by 05Z71 »

So I installed the performance tune last night and ran about 80 miles. I can tell a big difference, but as usual I NEED MORE!!!! I plan on logging next week when I have some time off, and Lew will definitely be getting the file and a nice donation. Until then, what are some of the things I can change to further my experience with the tool? Shift points, firmness, pressure, rev limiter, etc. Preach to me fellas, I am ready to listen!

That's the plan man. Like I said I will be doing some logging when I get off work and have some time next week. I might try to get some numbers on the way home in the morning since I have a guy riding with me and just mess with it a little at work tomorrow night. As far as the tranny changes, what would you guys suggest?

Alright Lew, I ran a poor man's log this morning on the way home from work since my laptop was at the house and I haven't gotten the data cable yet. Going off of the real time data on the predator, I was at +5.47 on both banks for the duration of the run. I ran for about 10 minutes in 3rd gear, 2000 rpm, @ 56 mph. I got to the house and went with -7% on the injector slope. I ran for about 40 miles and then did another log on the same stretch of road and I am showing -0.73% on both banks. Looks like the lftf is dialed in now, and YES I can tell a HUGE difference.

Now on to the tranny changes. What do I need to change the shift pressure to? What do I need to change the shift time to? Should I mess with the mph shifts? Should I mess with the mph vs tp shifts? How about the TCM, should it be on, off, or no change? And yes, I have TCM SUPPORT!!! :P

I NEED MORE!!!!!

I have no idea about the tranny settings, since I don't have the ability to adjust my tranny at all...

for what it's worth, mikel or johan advised that as for the shift speed....they have it set at max in the tunes. So you can only reduce the shift speed..I guess. As for the other settings... I'm in the same boat! It could be worse though....I could be without TCM!

you can increase the shift/line pressure to where it feels good to ya.. .that'll give ya firmer shifts....

They may have said that about the shift speed, but I am able to change it. I can make it faster or slower as it was set at "0" after the tune was installed. I guess I am not understanding why the increments would be in seconds though.

JDNC, what do you have your TCM set to? Do you ahve the same option of "ON" "OFF" or "NO CHANGE" that I do?

yeh, same options as you. I had a u7195 that allowed me turn off the all or any of three options and I usually turned the first two off. Now I have the new u7193 and only have on, off, or no change. Back to the shift/time, as I understand it.... it may appear that you can adjust the shift speed faster but the adjustment you make doesn't change anything as it set as fast is can be set by the tune. As Lew, advised.. you can adjust line/pressure to firm the shifts but I haven't changed anything on mine yet. Also, I can't remember if it was Mikel or Johan, but one advised if you have a good tranny you can set the pressures to max and not hurt anything. I tow alot in the summer and usually leave the TCM settings as is...as I don't need firmer shifts while towing 4K camper, but plan on playing around with settings just to see when not towing.

05Z71,
I love the Volant...a little pricey but seems to work. It's quite unil I get my foot in it....then it just moans! Lew advised me that it could be the reason my ltft's are way off (lean), so it must be working pretty good. I just found out from Mikel that the Diablo Tune is 93 oct so I'm set to go.

As for the shifting I forgot about the line pressure. I think Mikel or Johan stated that with a good tranny yu can set line pressure to max and be ok. As I tow alot I don't want too hard of a shift so I haven't tried increasing line pressure, but will soon using the Diablo tune!

The Diablo guys are great... and thank goodness for Lew on the week-end...Lew's the man...enough *&^% kissing!

I also forgot I answered your question on TCM in a earlier reply. I lost DSL service last night and have been screwed up ever since!

I have my shift points set by RPM(WOT). My 1-2 is 5700, and 2-3 is 5600. As far as line pressure: Part Throttle=1-2 is +1 psi and -2 seconds shift time, 2-3 is +2, 3-4=+1 WOT 1-2, and 2-3 are both +2. I haven't adjusted my LTFT yet as it is still cold out, and I want to wait for warm weather so it doesn't run lean in the summer. I have the L33 HO 5.3, if that makes a difference to you.

UHHHH...I think you run leaner in winter since air is colder and more dense and richer in summer when air is less dense....

then again...maybe I'm dense!

more air=lean less air = rich ie Volant made me lean due to more air...

Well, I did a little tuning on my days off and I must say the beast has been awakened!!! I maxed out my shift pressures all the way around and turned off my TCM. 1-2 is a huge kick in the ass, but 2-3 is real slow. I am thinking that my tranny may need some attention. I plan on having my mechanic check it out next week sometime and let me know what he thinks. Personally, I like Red's suggestion of run it till it blows and build it better!

As for the ltft adjustment that I made recently, I could tell a difference after about 20 miles of driving, but at around 100 miles this thing woke the hell up tremendously! On the way into work this morning cruising at 65 I was getting 24 mpg. That is an increase of about 4-5 mpg from stock!!! And talk about smokin some tires! A 30 punch broke em free last night and I started drooling!!! :drivingbad:
