Flowmaster or Magnaflow???

Post by DHufton »

I'm having a hard time deciding between Flowmaster and Magnaflow for my 2009 Silverado. In the past I've run straight pipes and loved every minute of it. Now, thanks to the great state of CA, I need to find a muffler. I want it loud with a deep rumble. Does anybody out there have any suggestions/experiences that can help me out with my decision?

For sound you can't beat Flowmaster. However, they really don't flow so good. As far as flow goes, DynoMax welded UltraFlows obliterate everything out there, including straight pipes (don't know how, but the flow bench don't lie).

might be late here but i have a 2004 z-71 and i run dual flowmaster outlaws. They are a single chamber pipe and the guy that put em on said it would be queter than the single 40 series cause i didnt have the compression that a hemi has(haha), you should have seem his face when i racked em off in his shop. Now they a bit louder than a forty series but they get real raspy sounding when you get down on it. Im fixing to get mine cut of and go with a 50 series hd.

Thanks for the info roughnek18. I think that I have decided to go with the 14" Magnaflow. The shop that I have talked to wants to put the single 3" in and two 2.25" out muffler on my truck. I am being told that in the state of CA it is now illegal to run true duals. I don't know how true that is, but I think it will be OK. It is definitely easier on the wallet this way! I think that the performance side of things will be OK too. It looks like most cat-back systems are set up this way. The good thing about this shop is that if I don't like the sound of the Magnaflow, I have a 24hr window to take my truck in and they will change out the muffler with another one of my choice free of charge.

Let me know how it works out for ya im goin to be getting somthing new soon myself and im looking for all the input i can get. I wish the shops out here had a 24 hour deal that would make things alot easier.

So, I went with the 14" Magnaflow muffler and it is exactly what I was wanting. They ran 3" pipe into the muffler and two 2.5" pipes straight out the back. The truck has a deep rumble and isn't too loud when I'm just cruisin' around. However, when I mash down on the accelerator, the truck roars! There's not too much drone on the inside of the cab either. This exhaust in conjunction with the K&N CAI has definitely given my truck a bigger set of cojones!! It can finally breathe. Now, all I need is that new update for the U7194 and I will be SET!!! Oh, and like everybody else, TCM SUPPORT!!!

Guess I should update this. Since I first posted it, I've gone to MagnaFlow (which was on when she ran the 11.91), then back to stock, and I now run Borla.

I was in the same boat when I discovered Cherrybomb. I ought it, and like it more than any of the Flowmaster's I've had.
