I think I got scammed at a CMR tuner.

I needed to get me car tuned so I called the nearest CMR to ask if they had experience with the srt4. The owner said, "Oh yes, we do a lot of those". So, I drove almost 4 hours one way to get the car tuned. After I paid for the tune (I did think it was funny to pay upfront but what did I know) the tuner said he had never done a PT Cruiser or a Neon. Great! I still figured they must know what they're doing. As soon as I hit the road (slow) the car overheated! I had to go into the tune and turn down the temps so the fans would kick on. After all this, I think the tune sucks! I did get a chart showing the dyno results after the tune.

They are:

HP: 213.3 @ 5495
TQ: 251.6 @ 3503
AF according to chart is always between 11 and 11.6

A little background:

I just put in the AGP wga last week and when I turned it up, the boost was way out of control. I turned it down to between 10-13 psi so I left it so I would be safe until tune.

After the tune, the boost is exactly in the same place 10-13 psi at redline. Never spiking over 13.

I see in the dsp that he did lean it out a little but I feel no power diff after the tune. I would think with all of the mods:

Stage 1, vak5, 3" exhaust, plastic manifold, AGP wga, txs-bc, and motor mounts.

that I should see more than 213 HP!

What can I do about this? I think this is $500 right down the tubes!!

Ahhhh! Looks like I'll be getting the wideband afterall!

Only 13 PSI?

Surprised they did not raise the boost, what does it say under last tune written?
got a copy of the graphs?

I know, I had already set the boost at a comfortable level before taking it in because I wanted the boost way up (around 17-18). The only reason for the tune is beacause I did not want to have to buy a wideband.

Now, I know all I need to do is turn the adjustment on the wastegate a couple of times toward the firewall. It would be easy but dangerous for me to do that without know a/f.

Just still trying to figure out that if I know this stuff (and I don't know much) why a "professional" tuner would not have the knowledge to do it.

Also, we talked about boost levels when I dropped off the car off. I said that most guys (on ptcrew.com) were seeing 17-18 and more psi with no problems.

Where do I see the last tune written? I did look through the tune. The fuel was leaned out so I know that he at least did something.

Thanks for your help!

ya, they did not use CMR, thats not a custom tune, but a modified (through the adjustable parameters) canned tune, was not even opened up in CMR to edit.

What did they charge you?

OMG! $500. And since the fan temps were turned up so it would not come on, do you think he did that so I would have to take it back in so they could get more $$?

No, he just did not think to lower them apparently...

Why would he have raised the fans temps in the first place? I had been running the 93 tune for a couple of weeks with no overheating.

Anyway, what can be done about this?

I'd definitely go back and bitch like hell and get my money back - or at least MOST of it!! that's BS... the guy screwed ya...

I'd be up one side of him and down the other, with a ball bat...

he charged you that much for a "custom tune", that isn't even custom... everything that that guy did, you could have done yourself through the handheld, since that's all HE did...

that's rediculous man...
