Lean 01 Lightning

Post by greenblood95 »

PLEASE HELP! GOT AN 01 LIGHTNING W/ 4LB CRANK PULLY, CAI, AND EXHAUST THAT KEEPS SETTING LEAN BANKS 1&2 CODES. I WAS TOLD THAT LOWER INTAKE LEAKS ARE COMMON AND COULD CAUSE THIS. THATS NOT A JOB I WANT TO GET INTO UNLESS I'M SURE ITS THE PROBLEM.

I'M USING THE PULLY 93 OCTANE TUNE AND I JUST PURCHASED A MAFIA BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT SETTING TO USE.

- does it give you the codes stock?
- is the mafi connected when you get the code? if so what level do you have it on?
- the mafi requires a custom tune to use, do not use it without a custom tune designed for it.
- the pcv hose at the bottom of the lower intake at the rear near the firewall bends 90 deg, this can rot and deterorate with heat and crack causing a lean condition as unmetered air will be entering. you should be able to see this by watching your fuel trims and 02 sensors at idle. the hose is not nice to get at and may require supercharger and lower intake removal, unless you have small hands and are double jointed.

I have not installed the Mafia cause I want to figure this out first. It does set the code with the stock tune installed! And the code is set at idle...will not set if moving. I was just on a 4hr trip and the light did not come on til I was stopped!

My guess is either the gaskets or a leak in the CAI somewhere...

One more thing, since I'm gonna remove the supercharger and lower intake do you know the best way to clean it and the intercooler?

Replaced the PCV hose in the back of the lower intake (it was cracked). Also replaced the lower intake gaskets and cleaned the intercooler and supercharger. THE TRUCK RUNS BETTER THEN NEW!!!! Anyone that hasn't done so you need to clean your intercooler it is NASTY!!! I'm a regular "back yard mechanic" and the job took me 7hrs.
