newb question on modifying tune

Post by JohnForeman »

If i install the 93 ocatne tune (u7194 2010 camaro 2SS) and then go in and make modifications, how are those modifications saved so that when I have to go back to the factory tune for service, i can reload the modified tune?

no...

when you restore the original backup to the car, any changes/modifications you made to the diablo tune are erased, so that the predator is all reset/unlocked and in like-new condition.

so, when you reinstall the diablo tune to the car, you'll have to make the same adjustments/modifications to it again.

I'm assuming that you didn't offer it as an option to the problem that saving the modified tune to the laptop is not possible?
Also, since I have your attention, looking at your dslogreduex application, how do i determine what rpm range to select? My pc interface cable is being delivered today so I expect to start logging and making changes tonight. If all goes well, I'll have it at the dragstrip Friday night. Not only will I be able to get some 1/4 mile times, I'm figuring it will be a good place to log some data for WOT settings?
thanks

sure, you can save out the modified tune from the car to your pc, and then would have to import it to the predator as a custom tune... you can do that...

just do your logging so that you're driving/cruising steady on the highway between 1800-2200 rpms... you'll probably have to be in 5th gear, not 6th/overdrive...

and in dslogredux, you don't necessarily HAVE to select the rpm range... I always leave it at the default 1800-2500 when I check my logs, and my cruise logs have the rpm at 1850-1950...

but either way, you can load up the log in dslogredux... have it do it's thing and see what the results are... then you can just select a different rpm range and click the analyze button again and it will give you results based on the data in that rpm range... probably won't be much different... mine usually aren't, cuz my steady cruising rpms are at 1850-1950 when I do my logs...

how many minutes of log time would you consider the optimum?

well, as with any data analysis, the more data, the better... but a good 10 minutes of steady driving/cruising log is good...

people have done it for less time and been fine as well, so it's basically whatever you can do... heh... cuz you will run into the inevitable slow downs due to traffic... but anywhere between 5-15 minutes of steady cruising is fine.

THAT'S if you're logging with a laptop and the dataviewer app in the car...

if you're using just your 7194 predator to log, the saved data log memory will get full in 1.5 - 3 minutes of driving.... so, make sure your car is up to normal operating temps before starting any logging... then start to record the log just before or just as you're getting on the highway, and then do the steady cruise for the 1.5 - 3 mins. until that log is full.

the predator will show you on the screen "Log is full"... once it does that, click continue and then press the ESC button a few times until you're back at the main menu, then you can unplug your predator.
