Buying a used Predator Tuner?
Buying a used Predator Tuner?
If I buy a used tuner for my truck, from e-bay or such. Can I get updates and custom tunes from the manufacturer. I think the unit for my truck is the U7195. My truck is a 03 2500HD with the 6.0l motor.
RE: Buying a used Predator Tuner?
From what I understand, only certain tuners can be updated. It appears the 7195 is not one of them. You have to send the tuner to Diablosport to be updated, and it costs $99.....
Make sure the tuner you buy is unlocked, meaning that it is not currently in use by another vehicle.
If I had known my tuner (a U7193) wasn't updatable, I wouldnt have bought it.

You know I have a problem with this statement. Is it really that they cannot be updated, or is it that Diablo doesn't want to do it? You know it had to be encoded at some point, right? Having spent 20 years at HP, I doubt someone would "hard code" hardware such as a tuner. It makes it useless if there is a mistake in the code, and it is not rewriteable in any case!
I seriously doubt that any maker of a software/hardware device would manufacture such a device in this day and age.

Perhaps I should rephrase that.... I think all of Diablo's Predator tuners are upgradeable. Just some are not upgradeable by the end user.
I am referring to my particular model of tuner, as well as the U7192, U7195, and U7198 are not end-user upgradeable. The tuner has to be sent back to the manufacturer to be updated. To top it off, if you are not the original purchaser of the unit, they charge you $99+ S&H to update it.
Overall the tuner itself is great. I just don't like that I cannot update the unit myself. To me it is a lot easier to download the flash and update it myself, than to send it off to be reflashed.

I believe you also have the option of finding someone in your local area that has the CMR software and does custom tuning. They should be able to accomplish the same thing for you.
