tuner and check engine lite on ?

wondering my ckeck engine light came on and motor started surgeing ,can the tuner tell you why the check engine light is on??? or does it have go to shop and them put it on there computer for engine codes ?? 2003 6 liter deisel thanks

The Predator can read and erase codes in the diagnostics section.
