A question before using this new tuner..

Post by RIDLRC5 »

In April of this year, I began looking around at prices for the I-1000 for my 2003 Corvette. I ended up ordering one off Amazon from a SOHi Performance. It arrived, and it put it away, wanting to wait until after I installed a cold air intake. I later found this site, and saw on the front page a warning about unauthorized suppliers. Of course, Among many others, SOHi and Amazon were listed. I am concerned. What was the problem here, with this vender. Were they selling bogus items? I do not want to install this tune, only to have it screw up my car, and then have Diablo tell me tough luck. The item was new, and sealed in the box. Everything's there, so I'm not concerned with being sold a previously purchased defective item. I'm just wondering what occurred, that was so bad, that Diablo puts out a statement that they "may" not offer support or warranty of the product if purchased from one of those on the list. I paid 323.00 for this unit. That should count for something.

Thanks for any info you may have.

You just explained the problem. You paid $323. Minimum Resale Price is $389. The company doesn't follow DiabloSport policies, so they aren't authorized to sell anymore.

Ok. Well, I can understand that, I suppose. Hopefully, Diablo won't penalize me for their wrongdoings. I selected their product among other options, and simply used what I thought was a good buy. I paid what I was asked to pay. No idea about requested minimum resale agreements between Diablo and it's dealers. Regardless, the main concern I had was that perhaps the retail outlet was somehow ripping people off with fake and/or refurbished products.

Thanks for the reply.

RIDLRC5, Based on your comments it looks like you purchased the product within the last 30 days. We recommend returning the product to where it was purchased and buying from a different source. We have several dealers we can recommend to you to purchase the product, including purchasing it directly from the DiabloSport website here: http://diablosport.shptron.com/p/i-1000 ... ammer?pp=8

You can also purchase it locally from any shop listed on our dealer locator here: http://www.diablosport.com/dealers/locations.html

Finally, there are many on-line and catalog retailers that we recommend:

http://www.autoanything.com/
800-874-8888

http://www.summitracing.com
800-230-3030

http://www.diablosportpower.com

We would recommend you avoid purchasing products from any one on this list as it may affect your warranty or other service on the DiabloSport product you purchase: http://www.diablosport.com/company/unau ... alers.html

Ok. Well, I'll try. I have a few days left according to Amazon policy. Problem is, I opened the package to ensure everything was in there, and I connected it to my PC and updated the tuner. It's all back in the package now, as it was, but it's now been opened, and it's even registered with Diablo under my name. I just don't think it's right that I, the end user, am threatened with possible loss of warranty or technical support. What did I do wrong in this? I have no idea what your requirements are regarding deals and contract issues with your retailers and required minimum markups. I chose your product, and set out looking for the best price. I found it, and I purchased it. Then, after the fact, I find out you have a beef with some of your previous resellers, and have a blacklist. I don't see how that's on me. Had I known beforehand, I wouldn't have purchased through Amazon.

I've sent the request through Amazon for a return. The info is now sent to the seller. If SOHi accepts it and provides return authorization, I'll send it back and purchase elsewhere once I receive my refund. If not, I guess I'm screwed, and will just have to hope that if necessary, Diablo will do the right thing by the customer, and stand behind it's product. Heck, let me send you the difference. It's not about the money anymore. I get it. You're protecting your profit. For me, however, It's about peace of mind. Because if they won't accept the return, there is no way I'm going to eat the three hundreds I've already spent and buy another one. Thanks for the reply. I hope to get this settled in the next few days...anxious to install this thing.

Mike
