How much TM is removed?
Hey all,
I have an 08 Chev 2500HD with the 6.0 and the six speed tranny and easily have over a 1000km (600 or so miles) on the 87 tune for my truck. So far, easily gained 2mpg split between city/hwy not driving any different so I would say I am happy as thats at least what I wanted. Even towing our small trailer which is under 3000 pounds max I still gained a little.
I am going to try the economy tune and the premium tune (yes with premium fuel) to see what differences I can see once I am through this tank.
What I wanted to know if it is possible to find out how much TM is removed by turning it off. Do you give out that info? I basically went for a firm shift on the tcm and the TM was default selected off but I honestly do not feel any difference in the TM. What I get is a hesitation leaving a light or a 4-way stop where if I do not gentally accelerate the truck falls on its face. I was really hoping to rid the truck of that.
Can a custom tune from Lew remove more of the TM? I am sure it does but without knowing how much it has removed how best can I describe what I want to achieve should I go the custom tune route.
Thanks

Re: How much TM is removed?
we remove most of the TM, disabling it in the TCM tune gets rid of any left for the trans side.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: How much TM is removed?
Okay thanks. It really feels like the hesitation is the TM based upon the other gm gas pots I have driven. Maybe there is something else happening.
Re: How much TM is removed?
What I think you're feeling is the truck starting in 2nd gear. All the 6 speed GMs do that unless you're in Tow/Haul mode. Then they leave in first.

Are you sure about that? Is that stock or with a tune or both?Mike_Levy wrote:What I think you're feeling is the truck starting in 2nd gear. All the 6 speed GMs do that unless you're in Tow/Haul mode. Then they leave in first.
I'm pretty sure 2014 Sierra 6.2 starts in 1st whether in normal or tow mode. With the 1-2 shift point set at 6200 rpm, the first shift occurs at about 42 mph in normal mode.
I'll have to double check back to back in each mode, but I don't think mine starts out in 2nd.
Can anyone else report on this?

I know for 100% that the previous Gen trucks did. My 2012 Yukon Denali 6.2/6L80E did it all the time, verified with a Dashhawk. I also know that my 2011 CTS-V with the 6L90E did the same thing if its not in Sport, and even in Sport it would short shift to second almost immediately without a fairly large throttle opening.typhoon186 wrote:Are you sure about that? Fairly certain thats both stock and with a tune.

Re: How much TM is removed?
Here are the shift points and speed with my 2014 Sierra Denali 4x4, 6.2 with 3.42 gears. In-Tune custom tune.
1st shift is at 6200 rpm = 42 mph
2nd shift is at 6100 rpm = 69 mph
3rd shift is at 6,000 rpm = 105 mph right at the 1/4 mile mark
that is in normal mode and traction control off.
I have the TCM tune set to shift 1st gear at 6200 and that is where my 1st shift happens. 2nd gear is set at 6100 and that's where it shifts. and so on.

Re: How much TM is removed?
I don't believe the truck is starting in 2nd. Especially a HD. When I switch to manual shift at a light the truck is in 1st.
I sometimes have put it into second at a stop to get a feel for the truck leaving the light in a taller gear as 1st in these trucks is so low.

Re: How much TM is removed?
So the TM that is removed is on the engine side only, not on the trans side?mikel wrote:we remove most of the TM, disabling it in the TCM tune gets rid of any left for the trans side.

Is this the same on all GM canned tunes, specifically the 1500 5.3L w/ 4-speed?
