downloading stock pcm backup

I've tried waiting for the "read" method to save the stock pcm 3 times so far. Every time it does it says "backup seems to be corrupt", then it says "failed to read original pcm backup error 0x00000386"

Alternatively I have tried the download mehod,which does nothing. I do what it says, when it prompts me to connect to a pc to download, I plug it into the laptop and press continue (leaving the vehicle plugged into the device as well). The first time I did it, I opened the updater and it said updating but for some reason I didn't notice it said that at first and unplugged it..

I tried again and the device restarted after what i presume to be a successful update

Once more I tried to write 87 octane tune, again it asks me to backup original pcm..it's a never ending cycle. Did I miss something? Why can't I download the stock backup?

I updated the device the day I got it so it should be up to date.
I'm running on a 2014 ford F150 ecoboost 3.5L

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It took few emails but he got me going. My problem was I use a mac, once he knew that he fixed me up.

I actually just tried hooking the tuner up to my mac instead (windows 7 virtualized)..
When i plugged it in, the device started to write and verify things. It did it 4 or 5 times, but it seems to be done now.

I'm about to go try and run a tune to see if anything different happens.

i am having trouble creating a backup of my vehicle's original pcm.
I plug in the device, tap on tune vehicle, write tune, turn the ignition to on, select 87 octane tune. it then says it will backup the original pcm. it gives me the option to read or download. (reading never worked right for me) so I choose download. it tells me to plug into an internet enabled pc to download it. so, i plug it into my laptop and press continue.
the device kinda reboots and when i open up the updater on my computer, it says the device is up to date.
so i unplug it from the computer, and back into the truck and it will tell me the same exact thing.

my issue is i can not get a stock backup of my current pcm to write any tunes. kinda frustrating... :/

Okay, so I just tried it again, this time I let it read the original PCM from the truck via odb port instead of trying to download it (which I still can't figure out)

I left the truck's key in the "on" state (never started the engine) the entire time. I left the door open, and at the same time I was going in and out other doors so the PCM should have never gone to "sleep"

After about an hour and 15 minutes it reached 100% then said "The backup file seems to be corrupt.." I hit okay and then it said the same thing as it always does, "Failed to read PCM original backup. Error code = 0x00000386"

I'm at a loss. Can someone please tell me what it is that i'm doing wrong....?

tried again, hooked up a trickle charge as it tried to read the original.. low battery warning comes up on vehicle after 45 minutes no matter what. i also left the door opened the whole time.

And i'm still not able to use my computer to download the original pcm file either..
Im pretty close to returning this thing.. i feel like i completely wasted my money...

sounds like you have a low battery/voltage issue with your vehicle, which would explain the tool not being able to read the pcm in it..

you have to have a fully charged battery, proper voltage..

doors CLOSED, everything inside the truck turned off (lights, radio, fan/blower, etc)..

anything aftermarket needs to be disconnected - aftermarket stereo, subs, amps, nav, remote start, alarm, trailer brake setup, etc.. anything aftermarket/dealer installed needs to be disconnected...

I have done research, the truck has a feature that automatically enables a power saving mode after 45 minutes of the key being in the "on" position. The battery is brand new, and i have absolutely ZERO aftermarket items. I have even tried it with the doors closed, doors open (with the dome light fuse pulled) while on a charger. It still triggers the power save mode regardless what I do.

Some specific instructions on how to download the original backup online rather than reading it would be great. I still have not figured out how to do this..

you can't download anything off the programmer if it can't read/save it from the vehicle first..

if it can't read/save it from the vehicle, there is nothing on the programmer for you to download...
