can't data log or read trouble codes

For some reason i have never been able to data log or read trouble codes, either with current vehicle (04 srt4) or any other vehicles. Is there a file or something i need?. I can tune and clear codes just fine. I updated a few days ago but now when i plug it in and to to log vehicle it says turn ignition to run, then it hangs on next step and never connects. Before update it would connect but there were no pid's.
