Getting rid of CEL for MDS

Post by Discount Tuners »

I've got a potential customer asking about a workaround for his CEL. He has a 2006 Ram 5.7 Hemi and has a code for Cylinder 6 deactivation (I'm assuming P3441 - Cylinder 6 Deactivation/Intake Valve Control Circuit/Open). Is there anything a tuner can do to prevent this code from coming up? If he deactivates MDS with an inTune, will the CEL not trigger? If the CEL will still trigger, would a custom tuner be able to disable P3441?

He has emissions testing so he needs to get his truck to pass but doesn't want to deal with the hassle/cost of fixing the valve.

Matt - can't disable codes with the tools.. he'd need to get a custom tune done...

But if MDS is disabled using the tuner, would the code ever be triggered? He said his truck has a button to disable the MDS and if he disables it, the light doesn't come on...but he doesn't want to have to hit the button every time he starts his truck.

tough to say for sure, but if using tow/haul to disable MDS works, it should work the same by disabling it inthe tuner.

I just bought a used Intune for the specific purpose of getting rid of a P3449 code in my 2006 HEMI Durango and I can confirm that it did work (by turning MDS off).

Before, even after unplugging the battery for an hour, the code would immediately come back with the key on.
