Brakes..of all things. Hill start assist issue.

Post by emw »

So, I was hoping to post about a problem I'd solved, but it's a lazy day and I spent 2 hours on the snowblower already, so I haven't got out to the truck yet.

I recently installed the i2 on my 2015 RAM 1500 Hemi. Installed the mpg tune (I put on close to 30,000 miles/year) and all is good.... but... the hill start assist or whatever it is called is engaging on almost every stop. Very annoying at stop signs, red lights, etc.

I installed the PCM when the truck was facing uphill.
I installed the MPG tune when the truck was facing downhill. I noticed a couple brake errors (that went away) on the truck display while I did this so I would have guessed given that and the behaviour that some incline sensor reset itself during the tune (while the truck was facing downhill), to think it was level and now when the truck is level it thinks it's pointing up and the hill assist comes on. So (getting to the point) I reinstalled the mpg tune (with the truck level) but the problem persists. My next move is to try a different tune, and if that doesn't work I'll reset the PCM, also while level.

Will post when the final solution is found, but in the meantime, I'm taking suggestions or bets as appropriate. I only saw one other post that even looked close to this problem, but the OP seems to have lost interest.

Thx.

cant say I have ever seen this, please try restoring stock tune to see if all goes back to normal and if so reload the tune on a level platform and try again.

So, I disconnected the PCM for a few minutes on level ground. It didn't solve the problem immediately, but it's gone away now. In other words, I took it for a test drive and it was still doing 'it', but I didn't have time for any other frigging around at the time. Before I got a chance to get back to it, it seems to have gone away.

Leaves me with a follow up thought though...Having presumably reset the PCM, do I need to reinstall the MPG time or would it have persisted?

Thanks
