Fan operation

Post by quicksilver45 »

Ok,
I have put in the 180* stat and lowered the fans to 189 for low fan and 195 for high/med.

The EVIC says the temps get up to 205* outside air temp is 50*.
While I have it in park the fans are not on when the EVIC says 190 and come on about 195 and run intermittently even when the EVIC says 200.

Is this normal? or didn't the fan mod "take".

I have put ALL the fan modes incl. the MPH fan adjustments to 188 and 195. Which is down from the 219 they were at.
Still the EVIC gets to 200 and the fans when the car is in my garage, only run intermittently and both run at the same time AND I see no drop in the EVIC temp when the fans come on and go off.

What is wrong?? Is anthing wrong? Is 200* normal? is intermittent fans normal? Fans running at same time Normal?

I am at the point where I will just replace the stock stat and say to he** with it.

You want to try to get the fans to come on at the same time as the stat opens, so try setting them a bit lower.

Thanks

So Both fans running at the same time is normal and they just vary in speed as the temp rises? I assumed that is the case but someone said differently.

I will lower both settings 3* and see what happens.

Thanks

OK,
You guys must be pullin' my leg.
I lowered the fans to 184 and 192. Took it for a drive an the EVIC got up to 197 and never came down. I parked it and the fans were off (with temp of 197 should they not be running constantly untill the temp reaches 192?) then came on for 10-20 sec and went off. No temp. change. Well 197 is better than 230 but I wonder what sommer will bring. Hope the fans run then.

I think my car wants high temp and that is it. It is possessed.

I have my low fans set at 192 and high fans set a 202. It's only 70* out here but it never goes over 194.

When the fans run, they both run.
In the low speed mode they are electrically in series (i/2 voltage to each), so they run at half speed.
In the high speed mode they are electrically in parallel (full voltage to each), so they run at full speed.

Are you sure you aren't looking at the OIL temperature? The coolant temp is shown in the diagnostic EVIC menu and should respond fairly quickly when the fans come on. The oil temps will remain pretty stable.

I think I have the same issue...I lowered my fan temp settings and nothing happened...it wasn't until I turned the a/c on that the fans worked...guess I need to change some more settings to get the fans to work with the a/c off. Couldn't you guys just make a duplicate of all the tunes and have one of each set up for the 180 thermostat?

Check your thermostat. I was having the same thing happen, so I swapped out my HyperTech for a NAPA. Car runs below 190 all the time now.
