2004 GTO Transmission Problems- Predator tune PLEASE HELP!!

Post by spooky_pitboss »

I have a 2004 A4 GTO. Im currently at 42,xxxx miles, always change my oil early etc etc. Im pretty much stock, i have a K&N FIPK, Predator tune, and some other minor things. I have increased the shift quickness/firmness settings on the predator tune, and have been told by numerous people that its actually good for the transmission to shift quicker with the line pressure increase, since it slips less and creates less heat. I love the way it spins the tires in the first few gear changes

I was driving around the other day, and gave it about 50% throttle from a stop while the car was in 1st gear and in D. The car bogged down a bunch and sounded like it was missfiring like crazy (no check engine lights at all) waited for a while to shift, caught the gear change and took off like normal. It does the same thing anywhere under about 30mph with at about 50% throttle or more. I have not changed my transmission fluid yet, but have the new filter/gasket in my garage. Im still under the GM powertrain 5yr/100,000 warranty. The thing is, it only does it with the performance tune on, even with the settings at the default performance tune parameters.

This might sound dumb, but can i go to the dealer with the performance tune on so it replicates the problem, but leave the settings alone in the predator? Im not sure if there's a difference after installing the performance tune, to the factory tune, or going to the "restore" feature. I dont know if the dealer will see that somethings been changed with the performance tune on.

It doesnt seem to do it anywhere after about 30mph or so, and only seems to do that at about 5% of the same severity while in the factory tune, predator unlocked completely.

Thanks in advance here guys, im really in need of some help here. This seems like a matter of time until something goes really wrong, and im almost out of my GM powertrain 5yr/100,000 warranty.

My car is pretty much stock except for the K&N FIPK, Predator tune, and exhaust stuff. I did the little stuff like the coolant bypass, Traction Control Chimp (defaults TC to off after 20 seconds) and a few other minor things.

Someone also mentioned it could be a bad cat, but i dont know why it would only do it with the performance tune on, and not do it after a certain point speed wise... Again, no codes were thrown, no check engine light...

DO NOT GO TO YOUR DEALER WITH THE TUNE INSTALLED!

You will HAVE TO reset back to factory prior to going in if you feel the need.

The first thing they will do is put it on a Tech II and find out if the ECM has been reprogrammed. THEN AND ONLY THEN will they work on the machine under warranty.

Hope that helps..

yeah, and if they reflash the pcm for any reason whatsoever, bye bye tune - and your predator is now locked, and unlockable - and effectively a paperweight since you won't be able to use it on your car anymore.

ALWAYS restore the original backup before you bring it to a service shop... a dealer's service dept. or any other for that matter...
