Why a handheld and not a phone app?

There was a question on the Genesis Coupe forums about why DS is building handhelds and hardware instead of building a solution that would run on a smart phone. I tried to look around for an answer, but didn't get far. I had a few thoughts, but figured I'd ask here.

So, why a proprietary handheld ...

Re: Data logging Genesis Coupe?

There are threads here and on genesis forums discussing the support for the Genesis Coupe starting with the 2.0T then the 3.8 so it shouldn't be long now.

I unplugged it and went to checkout the logs that did get written. When I plugged the unit back into the car to make more adjustments, my previous changes were not ...

Re: Boost adjustment not working as expected

Stock vacuum lines are connected and there are no leaks (did boost leak test) and I checked again after the first run of 20psi+ to make sure nothing blew off. Stock tune holds at 15psi solid so problem.

WOT fuel adjustment

While trying to reduce knock on the diablo tune, I decided to add fuel. I started off with an adjustment of the WOT fuel setting at 4k-5k and 5k-6k of -1.5 which on the device was showing as "richer". The knock was reduced. But adjusting the value to -3 caused more Kr ST and eventually -5 caused ...

Boost adjustment not working as expected

I installed the Diablo tune on my 2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4 and noticed the boost was set way high. Stock boost levels are 15psi and the tune was maxing out my gauge (20psi). I adjusted the boost levels using -3 which I assumed would take the tune down to 17psi. It did reduce boost levels to about 18psi ...
