I have a U7170 7r19dz, CAl ID TNAA7Y5
2002 Excursion
7.3
AFE stage 2 intake, banks high boost compressor wheel, Big Head wastegate, and Monster exhaust with power elbow.

I mention this because I am interested in custom tuning and their benefits? I get great fuel mileage from the 100 HP tune. I have recorded 22 mpg on the highway.
What can custom tuning do for me? Can I better my performance without detrimental long term effects?

Ok here are the problems,
First install of the Predator caused a theft light issue. One flash...then six flashes. then repeats that sequence. Returning the truck to stock tune did not fix the problem. The tune was from a Feb 2006 Predator and the original tune installed was the 6o HP.

Two weeks ago I had the truck to ford for some repairs.. Oil pump, new Cam position sensor.

They said the truck shouldn't even run with the theft system flashing that sequence. Somehow the theft system had been bypassed. They replaced all the system components. Still flashing.

They then tried to re-flash the PCM but said they were unable to. They said there was a program "burned into it?" and were unable to re-flash it. They said it was damaged and I had to purchase a new one.

Also, Is it possible to have the oil pressure surge too high and blow out seals? It literally blew out at the threads on the out put line. It was tuned to the latest updated 100 hp. Ford said it may have been caused by the pcm problem.

I called your support line and posed the question "what if I install a tune to the new PCM and the problem repeats itself" I am out a bit of cash already with the new PCM and Oil pump.

They assured me I would be taken care of and I trust I will be.

So
Now with the new PCM, I programmed in a tune and the Theft Light flashing has come back! The only difference this time is when I return to the original tune it goes away.

I want tuning but not a bypassed theft system, or damaged pcm's, and oil pumps and the $2,000.00 repair bills.

I called for support yesterday and the gal said Cole was gone and took my Cal ID and info and said he would call today. I received No call
so am leaving this post.

7.3 tunes

Post by mtwarrior »

U7170 tuner for '99 7.3 Auto trans.
CalID-VHAE9J2 v.8r05
4" turbo back exhaust, AEM intake, Precision billet converter w/ shift kit.

60hp tune-Mushy shifting, searches for gears, pulls good in mid-range,flat on top.
85hp tune-throttle response right off bottom is so touchy is hard to drive, good accel. and power.
100hp tune-doesn't really do anything, 85 hp seems like more power and faster.

Issue with Ford Diesel Tool

Post by jginochio »

Cal ID: VNAA9S4
Version: 8r05
Serial: d0009fba
Part: u7170 pstroke73
Truck 2000 Ford F250 Powerstroke Diesel 7.3L

Tow Tune and 85 HP seem fine. 100 HP feels like its back to stock tune and when its on the 60 hp tune the motor does not idle it starts up and chugs. it doesnt do this with any other tune. truck runs fine with stock tune. Also i cannot adjust shift firmness. im not given the option to like it says in the manual. My email is [email protected]. When will the updates be sent out? Can i return the tool if its not soon?

How do I return my programmer?

Post by iwantmorepower »

I have been waiting very patiently for 7 months for a tune that works ,but as of today I still cannot use my programmer! This is a joke!I want to return this thing and get my money back . Please respond and don't just give us some line that we need to be patient because you just bought the company or you have fired the guy responsible ,step up and give us a tune that actually works or start a refund program and help your dedicated customers that have kept this company going , because without happy customers you may not have to worry about fixing tunes because there will be no customers to sell them to.

Have still not heard from Diablo on my PATS system problem.
Maybe I can just get a refund?
I have not and will not reinstall and have lost confidence in the tool and programming.

Calid - TNAA558

My Predator boots Ford _7_3 Rev level 8r02 , 2 months old...I updated per instructions to 7r19 with no problems..I have a 2002 Ford 7.3L....When I installed a tune to economy 60hp.The power was noticeably less than the original 60 hp. tune (8r02).
Today 11/04, I tried the 85Hp. tune and there was too much smoke on moderate acceleration...Now here is where it gets interesting when I put the tow tune in it today (11/04),it outperformed the 60hp. economy tune, and there was smoke upon moderate acceleration...So I put the 60hp back in and although there was hardly any smoke, but it does not seem to perform as strong as tow-tune.. With the original rev. 8r02 the 60 hp. was as powerful or more than the 85hp. that I have with the 7r19 update...Now I will be towing a 10,000 lb. trailer soon for 2k to 2.5k miles.. I need to use this tuner to help with the fuel mileage... But as I have stated the 7r19 update's tow tune is stronger than the 60hp
economy tune. What I'm afraid of is when I get on the road with limited internet access, I cannot update readily.. Also the tow tune on the original ( 8r02) causes the engine light to come on under hill towing conditions... Also I noticed the overhead trip/ mileage computer is way off when I use the tuner... Or I'm really getting 35mpg... Can you explain this...

Software development is very difficult to do well. Embedded systems development is the most difficult form of software development. Then throw in the reverse engineering aspect of figuring out how the vehicle computers work... you realize that the manufacturers won't provide us with this information, right? There are no fixed schedules, just engineers grinding things out over long hours until finally the bits and pieces start to come together.

Timing of resolving he issues isn't all that great with the holidays and everything.
I personally worked each day everyone else was on holiday (dec 25th, Jan 1..probably including you).
Trust me, it's moving along very quickly. There are over 70 tunes that need to be re-done, tested/verified.
While most people are home today watching bowl games on TV, some of us are here working on U7165.
